3D to 2D

For my 3d to 2d project I wanted a lot of depth and to use my mask in some way.   And I liked my picture of 3d expressions and as an added bonus my final photo for 3d expressions has a lot of depth due to the perspective going back  from my balsa wood. 

Poetic Metamorphoses

For my poetic metamorphoses I wanted to stick to more natural colors(green, brown). Also I wanted to keep the furniture simple almost prison like. I truly did not this project. I attempted to construct the dresser 4 times and this was the best I was able to come up with.

Memento

For my Momento piece I wanted to tribute the first time I shaped a surfboard and everything I learned as a result of everything I did wrong. I took a partial foam blank and shaped it down to a rail and cut a notch out so it would sit on the edge of a table. Then I glassed the top partially with epoxy resin. I like how it came out. My favorite part about the whole piece is the excess resin and how the beads dried as they ran down the fibers. 

Paper Stacking

For my first paper stacking atempt I recreated the form of a lime. I cut out pieces of paper and then pasted them together usung wood glue and C-claps. After letting it dry I hit it with a grinder and sander till the shape was satisfactory. 

For my inventive form I wanted to recreate the motion of a chambered nautilus. So I cut out lima been shape and pasted them together at a slight off set from each other.  

Touch:  What I took from this reading is that when working on a piece you can't just rely on one sense. You have to used all you resources. Being able to observe and feel your subject/form you are working with is essential to truly understanding the construction, energy, and organic shape of your subject.

Sound Confessions

For my sound confession I choose the confession of "I am afraid to be me". I choose this confession because I am fascinated with stage in life that frequently occurs for most after their senior year of high school where they truly start to branch out and try new things to find out who they really are and how not be afraid to show who they really are.  

This American Life : I after listening to this segment I felt that it was kind of weird. I feel that The segment we listened to from TED is more of an art form than just leaving a message by phone. I feel the confessions were more heartfelt by postcard than by phone because more time and effort had to put into it. 

3D Expressive Forms

For my first sculpture of the semester I chose the word  Stoic to work with.  I wanted  to capture the feeling of being in the city and feeling minuscule in comparison to the towering skyline above. 

This is my drawing of my sculpture. 

For my next sculpture I choose Sad to be my theme. I chose to construct an open-ended box because I wanted to create a sense of emptiness.

This sculpture was based off of the concept of Chaotic. I applied this concept by adding jagged wood shavings on top of my platform to create disorientation.  

My final sculpture was modeled after the concept of anger. I displayed this through the use of sharp angles  and triangles. 

It's About Time

For this project we had to replicate the form of a toy animal figurine.  My  animal was a lion. 

After carving these forms twice we were given the task of adding something to one of our carvings 4 times. Then after this we had to subtract from the carving 4 times as well.

For my first subtractive action I decided to drop my carving. as an effect my lion replica lost both of his legs. 

Next I preformed my first additive act, a peg-leg. I created this peg-leg for my lion out of a toothpick.  

I decided for my second additive act I was going to give my lion a little character and draw on him.

My lion seemed fairly docile so I decided to give him a color which I crafted out of a twist-tie.

For my final additive act I gave my lion a stogy. I thought this would make him seem more like a dignified
king of the jungle.

For my second act of subtraction I put my lion in the microwave. But first before doing so I took off his  color so as to not blow up my apartment. After only being in the microwave for a few seconds the soap form started to expand and foam up. Then After about 7 seconds I took out my carving. As soon as I opened the door to the microwave the soap form started to compress and shrink in size leaving a light fluffy mass that resembled clouds. 

Next I boiled a pot of water then pulled the pot off the burner and once the  right temperature was acquired then I dropped my soap carving in. As a result not much happened other than it shrank a little more and broke apart.

As my last and final subtractive act I took a lighter to my lion. Not much of a reaction took place once the flame was introduced. The soap turned a light brown tint from where the flame made contact and the stogy got a little burnt.

Lick and Lather :  I enjoyed learning about this piece of art by
Janine Antoni. It was definitely an interesting concept of casting different molds of herself and casting them in a useful material. Then putting them to practical use and seeing how they took different forms/ changed as a result of their being used ie licking or scrubbing with the sculpture.  I enjoyed learning about this because I had never until now thought about casting in chocolate or soap then actually using them .
